Have you avoided working on a space because you don’t have the time to organize it the way you want it to be organized?
Life gets busy, and organizing that pile, that closet, or other problem spot seems to get bigger and more daunting. So, we do our best to ignore it and say we’ll deal with it later. Eventually, it refuses to be ignored. But, what do you do if you don’t have the time to dedicate a day or more to taking everything out, sorting it by categories, deciding what to keep, making a run to the donation center, then putting it all back together?
Dana K. White offers some useful tips with her 5-step “no mess decluttering process.” What she offers is a way to work on making it better, bit by bit. With her process, you start with the easiest stuff and work your way up. And, if you go layer by layer, you can avoid making new a big mess. The 5-step method is applied item by item until you get to the step that tells you what to do with it, whether it’s trash, donation, belongs somewhere else, or something you keep.
This process leans heavily towards slow and steady progress. This approach likely won’t work the best if you’re ready to have an organized space as soon as possible, and you want to totally reset how your space functions.
You may decide to bring in a personal home organizer, like Clutter Tamers, to help you make sense of the mess. Good news! Beyond just tackling the mess, I can help you develop strategies to help keep your clutter tamed. This can be an all-at-once marathon, or we can tackle space by space, making your space function better one session at a time by leaving it in a better condition than when we started.
